Following testing by Technische Universität München in Germany, NLMK’s EAF Kaluga ‘new generation’ minimill, part of the Russian steelmaker’s Long Products Division, has obtained the German national standard DIN 488-1 certification for its 10mm to 25mm diameter class B500B rebar. The company has received a certificate of compliance valid until 2020.
What does this mean? It means that the product can be used not only in the German construction industry but in other European countries as well.
NLMK’s group director for long products and metalware, Alexander Burayev, commented: “The manufacture of steel products that are compliant with the highest requirements is a priority for all NLMK Group companies.” He added that the certification confirming the compliance of our rebar with DIN 488-1 requirements guarantees a high level of NLMK Kaluga product quality and ‘opens up new opportunities for expanding the plant’s sales markets’.
The Kaluga minimill was opened in July 2013 and has a steelmaking capacity of 1.5Mt and manufactures 0.9Mt of long products.
