The Japanese quake-tsunami disaster has led to an H1 2013 profit for Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, thanks to strong demand from post-disaster rebuilding projects.

Nippon reported net profits of US$1.18 billion compared to a US$1.79 billion loss in 2012.

The company is forecasting an operating profit of US$3.44 billion for the fiscal year to March 2014, up from US$3.04 billion for the same period last year.
