Alacero, the Latin American Steel Association, and Tenaris, a seamless pipes producer, have joined together to help promote the educational tool ‘steeluniversity.org’ throughout Latin America, by translating large portions of its training material into Spanish.
Steeluniversity.org is a free, educational website developed by the World Steel Association, the global organisation that represents the steel industry. It aims to provide a comprehensive package of highly interactive, informative, and integrated e-learning resources on steel technologies, covering all aspects of iron and steelmaking processes through to steel products, their applications and recycling. Steeluniversity.org provides an opportunity to study and apply the basic scientific, metallurgical and engineering principles, thermodynamics and kinetics that underpin the production and use of steel through a series of realistic, game-like simulations of steelmaking operations.
These resources are used by more than 30000 people worldwide, including undergraduate and graduate students, professors, lecturers, and steel industry employees. The Spanish translation of the material has helped to increase the numbers of Latin Americans using the website; currently, 1291 Argentines, 925 Mexicans, 721 Brazilians and 290 Peruvians are registered to the site.
