NLMK, Russia’s largest steelmaker, which claims to be one of the most efficient producers in the world, has completed the commissioning of upgraded press equipment at its Verona plate plant in Italy.
The 9 million Euro upgrade will enable NLMK Verona to expand it’s product mix and increase the reliability and stability of deliveries to customers as well as reduce production costs.
The company has completed testing and commenced full-scale operation of a new manipulator, which rotates the ingot during the forging process. The existing press has been modernised, enabling ingot forging on three planes: by thickness; by width; and by length. Prior to upgrading, the plant had to outsource ingot processing, which increased production costs.
Additional furnace capacity for ingot heating and a unit for hot cutting plates will be installed before the end of 2015.
