The British rail infrastructure company Network Rail intends to source over 95% of its rail from Tata Steel until 2019 – with the option of extending the contract until 2024 – as part of a five-year plan of renewal and enhancement of the network.
The contract between Tata and Network Rail could mean that Tata supplies over 1Mt of rail and related premium products (such as 1HPrail) for both passenger and freight lines.
Tata’s chief commercial officer Henrik Adam says that the contract was made possible by Tata’s drive to be more ‘customer focused’.
