Russian steelmaker MMK’s Mill 2000 has announced record production levels and is positioned to grow domestic market share in automotive sheet.
The company claims that it has produced 5Mt of cold and galvanised rolled products and that the metal is largely used by the automotive, household appliances and construction industries.
Mill 2000 was launched in 2011 and was, claims the company, designed to reduce Russia’s reliance upon imported metal following the recent devaluation of the rouble.
MMK has been increasing its share on the domestic market as a producer of high-quality automotive sheet for locally operating Russian and international car brands.
Russia’s largest carmaker, AvtoVAZ, now relies upon MMK for 60% of its steel and the company further claims that global manufacturers, such as VW and Renault-Nissan are also purchasing MMK metal. Hyundai and Daimler are currently testing samples.
