JSW Steel has reported growth in steel production of 3.1Mt in the first quarter ended June 30th. The Indian steelmaker produced 2.86Mt of crude steel in the April to June quarter of 2013 and announced that production of flat products stood at 2.43Mt compared with 2.23Mt a year ago.
JSW said that the growth rate in the production of long products exceeded that of flat products.
The company produced 0.52Mt of long products during the quarter compared to 0.45Mt a year earlier.
Flat products are used primarily in the automotive and consumer durables sectors while long products are key staples of the construction industry.
