Italian plant builder Danieli has been awarded the contract to replace the primary descaler, hot plate leveller and plate shearing line No. 1 at JSW Steel USA, in Baytown, Texas. The steelmaker’s intention is to improve plant yield.
Phase one of the project is underway now and commissioning of the new equipment is expected by the autumn of this year.
Phase two of the project was confirmed by JSW in September 2018. The aim is to replace the reversing rolling mill, install a pre-leveller, direct quenching and accelerated cooling, fully replace the cooling beds and add a new cold plate leveller.
Among other Level 2 automation features provided by Danieli Automation, the new 4-high plate mill stand will be equipped with plan view rolling technology (PVR), which will improve yield by approximately 2%.
