Steel in a Sustainable World is the name of a series of CEO insights available from the World Steel Association (worldsteel) and designed to highlight the role of the global steel industry in creating a sustainable future for the planet.
There are seven CEOs involved in the project and they are John Ferriola of Nucor Corporation, Paul O’Malley of Bluescope, Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation’s Kosei Shindo, JSW Steel’s Sajjan Jindal, Louise Schorsch of ArcelorMittal Americas, Martin Lindqvist of SSAB AB and Paolo Rocca of Techint Group.
CEO Insights and films will be published weekly. The first, which is now available, highlights the steel industry’s environmental standards.
Edwin Basson, director-general of worldsteel said that the CEO insights were a tremendous way of demonstrating ‘our members’ commitment to the future of steel.’
According to Basson, “As an industry, our belief is that sustainable development must meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
He said that worldsteel was committed to a vision in which steel is recognised as a key element in a sustainable world, adding that ‘the properties of steel alone demonstrate its significance in this area’.
Steel is not only 100% recyclable, it is the most recycled material in the world.
