Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSMMC) of Japan has reported a fire at its Nagoya Works.
The plant's coal storage facility connected to Coke Oven number one, caught fire at 12.35pm and NSSMC claims that, with regret, 'four associated company employees were injured by this accident'.
The company claims that immediately after the accident occured it stopped feeding gas to the coke oven and that by 2pm the remaining gas in the oven was burnt off and released to the air.
"We deeply regret the great trouble, anxiety, and inconvenience caused to the people of the local community and those concerned by the series of events which began in January 2014. We will make utmost efforts to determine the cause of the accident as soon as possible. At the same time, we are determined to take necessary measures in order to prevent similar accidents in the future," said NSSMC, adding that it would report the cause of the accident as soon as possible.
