The World Steel Association admitted eight new members at its Annual Meeting in Sao Paulo, Brazil 6-9 October.

The Association (worldsteel) represents approximately 170 steel producers (including 17 of the world's 20 largest steel companies), as well as national and regional steel industry associations, and steel research institutes which together represent around 85% of world steel production.

Three new Regular members (steel companies producing more than 2M short tons (1.8M metric tonnes) a year were admitted:

− Emirates Steel Industries Company PJC, represented by Saeed Al Romaithi
− ILVA SPA, represented by Mr Federico Bondi
− RIVA Forni Elettrici SPA, represented by Cesare Federico Riva

Associate Members (steel companies producing less than 2M stons a year joining were:
− Usha Martin Ltd, represented by Prashant Jhawar
− Walia Steel Industry plc, represented by Sisay Tefaye Bekele
− Visa Steel Ltd, represented by Vishal Agarwal

Affiliated members (steel related associations, federations, and research organisations) admitted were:
− American Institute of Steel Construction, represented by John Cross
− Azerbaijani Society of Metallurgists, represented by Goshgar Ismayl
