The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has reported that US steel mills shipped 8.02Mt (net tons) of steel during the month of December 2019, up 4.6% from 7.6Mt (net tons) reported for the previous month (November 2019).

The latest figure for December 2019 US steel shipments represents an increase of 2.8% increase from the 7.8Mt (net tons) shipped in December 2018.

Shipments for 2019 reached 96,1Mt (net tons), a 0.9% increase when compared with 2018's full year shipments of 95.2Mt (net tons).

According to the AISI, a comparison of December 2019 shipments to the previous month of November shows the following changes: hot rolled sheets, up 16%, cold rolled sheets, down 2% and hot dipped galvanised sheets and strip, down 4%.
