China produced 65.47Mt of crude steel in July, up 6.2% year on year, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said. In the January to July period, the country’s crude steel output totalled 455.8Mt, up 7.1% from the same period last year.

China exported 5.15Mt of steel products in July, down 2.65% from the previous month, according to the latest data provided by the General Administration of Customs (GAC). In the first seven months of this year, the country’s steel product exports totalled 35.83Mt, a jump of 13.7% year on year, customs data showed.

China imported 1.18Mt of steel products in July, up 9.26% from the previous month, also according to the latest data provided by GAC. In the first seven months of this year, the country’s steel product imports totalled 8.01Mt, down 1.3% year on year, making China a net exporter of 27.82Mt for the year to July.

Sheet steel prices in most of the 20 cities monitored saw increases between RMB 10 and 80, ($1.6 – 13.1) except the price in Chongqing which rose by more than RMB100 ($16.3).
