China produced 66.28Mt of crude steel in August, up 12.8% from a year earlier, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said. Average daily crude steel output stood at 2.1381Mt in August, up 1.2% year on year. Blast furnace iron output was 59.92Mt in August, up 11.1% y-o-y, while output of steel products rose 15. 6% to 91.94Mt.

From January to August, the total output of crude steel was 521.84Mt, up 7.8% from a year earlier. Blast furnace iron output rose 6.6% to 480.38Mt and output of finished steel products rose 11.2% to 701.64Mt.

Crude steel output in the country has climbed to a high level again as the majority of steel mills see an improvement in business operation thanks to a rally in steel prices since June, and are reluctant to take the initiative to cut production.
