Customs data showed China exported 4.92Mt of rolled steel products in September, and 46.9Mt of steel products in the Jan-Sept period, up 15% year on year.

The average price of steel exports during the period amounted to US$827 per tonne, down 13.4% year on year.

China will face mounting difficulties in steel exports, given slow global economic recovery, increased protectionism and frictions in international trade, Zhang Changfu vice president of CISA, warned.

According to a report by Zhang, sluggish steel price is the common problem facing global steel makers. Though China’s steel exports in the first eight months of this year increased from a year earlier, the average price of steel exports fell sharply.
