UK-based process control specialist Broner Metals Solutions has been selected by Chinese steelmaker, Taiyuan Iron & Steel (TISCO) to supply their real-time caster and steel plant scheduling system for new steelmaking equipment in plants 1 and 2 in TaiYuan City, ShanXi province.
TISCO manufactures stainless and carbon steel and has a large iron and steel complex which integrates mining, iron and steel production, processing, delivery and trade. It claims to be the largest producer of stainless steel in the world with an annual production capacity of 10Mt of steel, which includes 4Mt of stainless.
Broner’s systems have been in operation at TISCO’s steelmaking 2 North Plant since 2006 and were designed to improve the scheduling and management of its melt shop operations. According to Broner, the system has ‘increased productivity, reduced costs, achieved greater production visibility and improved the reliability of delivery dates to the rolling mills’.
The latest contract is to upgrade ‘all existing solutions at TISCO’s steelmaking 2 North Plant with the latest versions of the Broner modules as part of Broner’s Sustainable Software Technology’.
According to Broner, ‘it will then mirror the implementation principle to cover new equipment in both the steelmaking plant 2 North and South areas before rolling out to steelmaking plant 1.
Broner CEO David Mushin said that the project highlights Broner’s growing business in China.
Broner will provide training of TISCO personnel.
