Baosteel Group has signed a contract with SMS Group of Germany for the delivery of a 2250mm hot rolling line.
The plant, with an annual production capacity of up to 5.5Mt, will be installed as one of the major plants in Baosteel’s new production base in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province.
The main part of the Zhanjiang project started construction on May 2013. Earlier reports said work at the Zhanjiang project had slowed due to the sluggish steel market, but Baosteel explained that the slowdown was caused by changes made on the project’s capital and management.
The Zhanjiang project is set to finish construction and start production in 2015.
