World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association was 125Mt in August 2011. This is 9.8% higher than August 2010.

China’s crude steel production for August 2011 was 58.8Mt, an increase of 13.8% compared to August 2010.

Elsewhere in Asia, Japan produced 8.9Mt of crude steel in August 2011, a slight increase of 0.1% compared to the same month last year. South Korea’s crude steel production for August 2011 was 5.5Mt, a 19.3% increase compared to August 2010. India produced 6.16Mt up 7.4% on August 2010.

In USA, crude steel production grew 13.8% compared to August 2010 to 7.35Mt and, compared with August 2009, by 35.8%.

Output in the 27 EU countries was 12.7Mt in August, up 4.3% on August 2010 and up 21.1% on August 2009. Other European countries (including Turkey) produced 3.021Mt in August an increase of 6.9% on August 2010.
