The Wikinger offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea, which is being developed by electricity producer Iberdrola and is 75km from the German coast, will soon by supplied with 23kt of heavy steel plate from ArcelorMittal Asturias, the only heavy plate producer in Spain.

The steel will be used in the construction of 29 jacket foundations, which are designed to anchor the turbine to the seabed. Deliveries will commence next month and continue for roughly one year.

According to ArcelorMittal, the development of new steel grades and the use of state-of-the-art steel processing technologies have enabled ArcelorMittal Asturias to broaden its offering, access new markets and diversify its range of products.

Installation of the jacket foundations commences during Q1 2016 and will be completed by the summer of that year.
