Trial production is expected to start in September at an electrical steel plate production plant in Gujarat, Western India. The plant, which is 95% completed, is owned by China Steel, which has invested US$236 million in the project.

The plant will produce 200kt of steel products per year for sale mainly in India. Surplus output will be exported to the Middle East and Europe.

China Steel, a Taiwanese company, signed an agreement with the Gujurat Industrial Development Corporation in 2012 that effectively launched the project. The 60-hectare site is located on an industrial plant in Gujurat.
